F. Maxa Memorial
On November 20, 1969, the fighter pilot Major FrantiĊĦek Maxa crashed a SU-7BM fighter-bomber for unknown reasons. The plane crashed and exploded in the forests around the town of Malacky. Rescuers assumed that the pilot would not survive the explosion of the machine and ended the search that day with the arrival of darkness. The next day, they found the pilot's body at a distance of 700 meters from the crash site and found that the injured pilot was still alive for several hours after ejection. The event of this tragic death led to a reassessment and improvement of the rescue system after a plane crash in Czechoslovakia. Today, in honor of this tragic event, we will take a 25-kilometer march through the forests around the town of Malacky. On the way, we will also stop at the tragedy memorial. Enjoy your walk!
The track leads through forest roads, clay, gravel and asphalt surfaces. It is ideal for Nosrdic Walking. The asphalt part is more than 6 kilometers long, don't forget to take rubber caps for the tips of the poles. Be careful, the trail is not color-coded, so keep a close eye on your GPS devices. You can download the route here.
We will go practically on flat terrain, the total climb is an insignificant 119 meters.
We can park our car in the parking lot of the castle park in the town of Malacky. From there we start our walk. Here is the link to the location on Google maps.
Right at the beginning of the journey, we will walk through the castle park and the outskirts of the town of Malacky...
...And we will reach the highway that we will have to cross. Fortunately, there is a small underpass here.
In the forest we can find mainly pines, spruces, beeches and oaks. The forest is artificially planted, so we often find such beautiful paths here.
We also find ponds in the forests. Our track also runs between the two.
Well, look...
...These roads are every Nordic Walker's dream.
Here we come to the intersection with the 1st class road. Be careful when passing, vehicles drive faster here than in the town.
Right after the intersection, a more than 6-kilometer asphalt section of our road begins. There is also a rest area, where we can rest for a while and continue on.
Vehicles are not allowed on this road, so we don't have to worry about any traffic...
...Until we reach the next crossroads at the Red Cross pilgrimage site.
We continue along the asphalt forest road until we reach the place marked with a yellow dot on the road and a red arrow on the tree. Here, in the direction of the arrow, we turn into the forest and...
...After about 100 meters, we find the monument to F. Maxa.
We start the way back by looking for a forest path. When we find it, according to the GPS, we happily follow it...
...Until we reach the crossroads again, we carefully cross the road and continue through the forest.
As we approach the town of Malacky, our road runs parallel to the highway. The singing of birds and the fresh forest air are finally replaced by the wonderful noise of traffic and the smell of exhaust fumes.
To enter the town, we have to cross the highway again. Now, for a change, via overpass. We walk between the houses, visit the castle park once again and come to the parking lot, where our track ends. Thank you for walking with me.
